History of the Department of Chemistry
Established in September 2008, the Department of Chemistry at Government Degree College, Gummalakshmipuram, has played a pivotal role in offering B.Sc. (CBZ) courses. Over the years, the department expanded to include English Medium students, ensuring access to quality education for a diverse student body.
As a cornerstone of academic excellence, the department boasts dedicated and experienced teaching staff who are committed to delivering high-quality instruction. The curriculum follows the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) framework, meticulously designed by Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. With a consistent demand for the CBZ group, the department enrolls more than 40 students annually.
The department houses a state-of-the-art laboratory, featuring over 40 burettes and other essential equipment, allowing students to engage in hands-on practical sessions with individual access to resources. The spacious corridor outside the department serves as an additional learning space for assignments, study sessions, and internal examinations.
To support holistic development, the department provides study materials each semester and organizes a variety of activities, including awareness programs on health, environmental conservation, and scientific advancements. Social responsibility is encouraged through weekend clean-and-green initiatives. Facilities such as drinking water add to the department’s student-friendly infrastructure.
